WHEN HE’D FIRST thought up this plan, Tate hadn’t known how Logan would react. Yeah, he’d told Tate to stay home tonight, but that was because he hadn’t wanted him sitting at the table with a man who would most certainly take issue with them. So would Logan be mad he’d decided to come and sit at the bar instead? Tate wasn’t sure. If he were to guess by the shock on Logan’s face when he’d first seen him, Tate would think it could go either way. But as Logan got to his feet and tossed his napkin down on the table to walk past his dinner companion, he raised his eyes once again to meet Tate’s, and instead of shock, they were now filled with an expression Tate was more than familiar with—desire.
Jesus, he’s potent, Tate thought, as Logan made his way through the tables, his focus now locked on Tate like a fucking laser beam, and when he came to a stop at the bar, Logan gestured for the bartender.
Tate let his eyes roam over Logan’s striking profile, from his perfectly styled hair and day-old stubble, to his high cheekbones and masculine jaw line, and damn, there was no denying it—Logan was fucking hot.
As the pretty blonde behind the bar came to a stop in front of Logan, she ran her eyes over him before practically batting her lashes at him. “Hi there.”
“Hello,” Logan said as he scanned the center shelves of the bar that housed the many bottles of liquor.
“What can I get for you tonight?” she asked, no doubt hoping Logan’s answer would be you.
Too bad for her, Tate thought. He’s already spoken for.
“An order of the Camembert truffle baguette, and a gin and tonic.”
“No problem,” she said, and as she went about making the order, Logan continued to stand there beside Tate, silent but not unaffected, if the way he was drumming his fingers on the counter was any indication.
When the blonde put his drink down in front of him, Logan handed her a card, and as she walked off to run it, he finally turned his head toward Tate and ran those vivid blue eyes over his face. “Evening.”
Tate didn’t respond straight away; he merely picked up his Corona and took a swig, his eyes never straying from Logan’s. Tate could tell Logan was trying to gauge his intentions. Why was he there? Was he still angry from earlier?
Then Logan asked, “Are you here alone?”
Tate slowly nodded. “I am.” Then he took another sip of his beer and said, “You?”
Logan angled his body toward him and leaned against the counter. “I’m at a business dinner.”
“Ah,” Tate said. “Sounds fun.”
“About as fun as a root canal,” Logan said as he ran a finger around the top of his glass. “Let’s just say this isn’t my idea of a good Friday night.”
“No?”
“No. I had plans to be with someone else and they got changed last minute. It kind of put me in a foul mood.”
“Kind of?” Tate said, and one of Logan’s eyebrows arched.
